[ CLOSED TO KLAUS & CHRISSY ]
[ CLOSED TO EDDIE M ]
( When the video comes up, Lydia's clearly exiting the Department of Displaced Supers, her lab coat still on and hair still tied up in a topknot, but she looks super jazzed and more excitable than normal because she's feeling incredibly clever right now. Eddie might kill her by the time she's completely finished executing her plan, but hey. #WorthIt )
We're going shopping for a night out this weekend. What time are you both free to hit up the mall?
[ CLOSED TO EDDIE M ]
( In this video, sent directly after the first, Lydia has composed herself and is stopped at an intersection waiting for the crossing signal to tell her she can safely cross. She does smile, though, keeping it as casual as she can. )
Hey sweetie, two questions:
One, what are you doing Friday night?
Two, are you home right now? If you are, I need you to real quick show me your 'going out' clothes.

Lydia/Chrissy/Klaus
Her body, for the most part, is hidden beneath the second layer of shirt, though her legs are visible. And though it is similar to what those around her are wearing the colors are a bit different - less neutrals and blacks and skewing a little closer to her 80s roots.
She looks confused at the invitation. She looks confused at the ide of going out. Much like Chrissy's new norm she just looks...well...confused. She lifts her wrist to check the time.]
I can get out by 5:45 - 6 at the latest if Tansy's mom is late to pick her up for a second time this week. But why are we going out - what are we doing?
no subject
Bold of you to think I'm busy at all. But you did interrupt my afternoon nap.
[ A grin, a wink. ] I think I can compromise. Also, Chrissy - that is your name, right? Hi hello how are you and all that jazz, I'm Klaus. No one ever needs an excuse to buy clothes to go out in. That's just it - you never know when you're going out on the town, so you might as well be prepared.
no subject
[And she's been in and out of Lydia's apartment to spend time with Eddie, finding comfort in being around Eddie when she isn't with the much elder Eddie.]
I'm still struggling with the whole clothes thing - the style is different now. [Chrissy reaches up to fiddle with her ponytail, nerves churning a little bit.] And I'm an odd size, I really need to drop a little weight to make it easier, my mom and I usually have to tailor things back home - let them out or take them in because I have to go to a bigger size that's a little too big....
[Chrissy isn't sure about the whole shopping thing - at least for her.] But I'd be happy to go even if I'm not sure I'll get anything! [Because she'd hate to let them down - or be rude...]
no subject
So sorry, hubs. You still love me, right?
( She looks at the split screen on Chrissy's side, lifting her eyebrows. )
Drop a little weight? Sweetie, there won't be anything left of you if you do! Your 1980s is showing. We are all about body positivity in the new millennium. Listen, if there's anyone who can help you find the perfect outfits that fit you just right, it's Klaus. He's even better t it than I am and I'm a goddamned genius. Trust us.
( She holds up a finger and then crosses the street, her attention on where she's going and her surroundings. Then, once she's back on the sidewalk, she looks back at the screen. )
We are going out, girl. I was gonna say let's hit Landos because they don't card, so you can get in, but Eddie just invited me to check out dive bars around here.
What say you both? Seedy-ish night club, dive bars with a potential for live music?
no subject
I just think you can't see what's going on underneath the t-shirt, but if you two think that you can find a perfect outfit I'll try it on, at least - no promises though, deal? I wanna fit in it's just...different.
[Chrissy takes a look around at the girls in her class and scattered about the dance studio, truly knowing that the style is different, but she's not sure what to make of it, or what she thinks about it. The thought of needing to try on clothes makes Chrissy's stomach churn and she can already hear the sound of scissors and ripping, practically, in the back of her mind.
The name Eddie knocks her slightly out of the train of her thought, though.]
Eddie invited you out?
no subject
( She can't help laughing a little as she shifts her eyes from Chrissy's square to Klaus's and winks at him. )
Besides, I think you'll be surprised how much more comfortable modern clothes are. We weave lycra and spandex into damn near everything, so everything, even jeans, have a little bit of stretch. The first time I felt Steve's jeans and realized they were legit just denim and nothing else, I almost keeled over on the spot. I don't know how you all can stand jeans without stretch!
( The door has officially been opened to talk about clothing, as far as Lydia's concerned, so pardon her while she rambles excitedly about her very favorite thing in the entire world.
Suddenly, she looks surprised, like she's forgotten something. That's because she had and she's just remembered it. She meant to mention it to Chrissy a couple of days ago at the apartment, but something had distracted her and by the time she'd remembered again, Chrissy had gone home for the night. )
Oh! Also, I think you and I might be the same size, so if you ever want to borrow any of my things, you're welcome to it. Klaus and I share all the time. Double the wardrobe, double the fun.
( Chrissy asks about Eddie's invitation and Lydia grins a little. )
Well, I was going to invite him to join us but I'd only gotten as far as asking him what he was doing Friday night and he said he might be going to check out some dive bars, did I want to come. So, I invited him to come with us, but I'm just wondering, should we do the dive bars like he was going to do or should we hit up Landos and make all the men in the place jealous and dance with each other while Eddie and Klaus are stuck just watching.
( This time, she drops a wink to Chrissy instead of Klaus and grins a little wider. )
no subject
I don't think I've ever really done that much clothes shopping with friends - my mom and I always went because she tailors my clothes.
[Chrissy pauses a moment to plaster on a smile and waves at one of the kids being picked up with a bright 'Bye!']
They make jeans different now? Really? [Chrissy tilts her head, a little astounded. It quickly turns into her waving off the offer to share Lydia's clothes, a flash of self-consciousness crossing her features because there's no way.] Oh I'm not sure if we're the same size, honestly, and I wouldn't even know where to start, it's okay, really. I'll probably be living in dance clothes for the most part now anyway. [Chrissy smiles.] I appreciate the offer, though, really.
[There her hand goes again, to fidget with her hair.] What's Landos exactly? Is it like Star Trek themed or something - and you like dancing?
[Chrissy gets herself off track, distracted with the much more important about dance, already definitely wanting Eddie to go...if she goes.]
no subject
Seriously? Oh, girl, let us love you, then, you've been sorely deprived!
( Nodding, Lydia smiles, but it falters a little at Chrissy's hedging about sharing clothes. She looks down at herself and gives a facial shrug. Has she put on a little weight? Klaus would tell her, wouldn't he?
She looks up at the screen again and over at Klaus with a tiny pout. )
Hubby, you'd tell me if I gained weight, right? I'm not that much bigger than Chrissy, am I?
( Her eyes shift back to Chrissy. )
If you change your mind, offer's still on the table, sweetie. But as for Lando's, I'm not really sure why they call it that, but's just a nightclub that has a bouncer who'd rather ogle underage girls than turn them away at the door, so he doesn't card women when they walk in and they don't check IDs at the bar, they just assume under 21s won't get in.
( She shrugs a little and then gives a coy grin. )
I like making boys drool. Besides, yeah, who doesn't?
no subject
[Chrissy admits, forgetting to not be careful in the moment, but very quickly she goes wide-eyed, guilt hitting her as she realizes that Lydia thinks that she thinks that Lydia is big. Chrissy immediately shakes her head.]
You're not bigger than me - I didn't mean it that way! I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to insult you or anything.... I just don't know where to start or if I'd look good or feel comfortable borrowing your stuff, you look so good in it there's no way I'd compare.
[Chrissy's cheeks are flushed pink and she looks away feeling guilty after her blabbering.]
Oh...well I'll go wherever with you guys...and Eddie. [Chrissy shrugs.] My boyfriend back home doesn't like dancing much unless it's for, like, a picture or something, so some people, I guess, don't?
no subject
( Lydia's eyes shift back to Chrissy and she smiles, shaking her head and waving a hand. )
Oh, God, don't even worry about it. I know.
( Her eyes move to Klaus again with a little knowing look. Ohhh. Chrissy's lowe on self-esteem. Well. )
Please, Klaus looks better in half my clothes than I do, it's entirely possible to look cute in other people's clothes. I'm serious, if you see anything you like, just say the word. I promise to tell you no if I don't think it would look good on you.
( She crosses her chest with one finger, but her smile falters when Chrissy mentions a boyfriend. Of course she has one...damn. That's fine, it just means she'll have to work a little harder to get Eddie's foot in the door. Their chemistry is palpable, after all. )
Only losers don't like dancing, in my personal opinion, but maybe he just didn't want other people to know he likes it.
( She shrugs, an attempt to soften the blow of the insult to Chrissy's boyfriend. She really does think that. Hell, even Jackson liked dancing and he was a toxic douchebag when they dated. )
no subject
Okay - because I wasn't trying to insult you - and I'll consider it, but I can't make any promises yet. [It's the truth - and the most she can budge there because there's already a lot of anxiety at the potential - and fear - behind the thought of even considering borrowing her clothes.]
Probably the second thing, honestly. Why do you think only losers don't like dancing, though?
no subject
( Lydia shrugs. )
Because dancing is fun? Have you ever seen Footloose? I just assume anyone who doesn't like dancing is from that town and they should probably stay there. Boooooring.
no subject
[Chrissy frowns for a moment before it lightens.]
I mean it is fun - and I have seen Footloose, isn't Kevin Bacon dreamy?
no subject
( She shrugs a little, having the grace, at least, to look ashamed.
That shame fades in favor of a grin as Lydia nods. )
Yeah, in Footloose, he definitely was. He was pretty hot in his prime.
no subject
[ He sighs dramatically, shaking his head. ] He's like a negative five on the Scoville scale. Dream of bigger, better, beefier things.
Eddie/Lydia
Your majesty.
[ He taps his chin as if he's contemplating his plans. ] Abso-fucking-lute-ly, nothing. I was thinking about checking out some dive bars. You wanna come?
[ He chuckles, panning the camera at his current outfit. ] These are my going out clothes.
Eddie/Lydia
That's probably never going to get old.
( She gives him a thoughtful facial shrug. )
Klaus, Chrissy, and I were going to go hit Lando's, but I can see if dive bars might be a go instead... I wanted to know if you wanted to come with us.
( Lydia isn't actually surprised, but she still winces a little. )
Remind me to take you shopping. Those are not going out clothes.
Eddie/Lydia
[ He raises an eyebrow. He hums, looking warily at the camera. ]
This wouldn't be a cute attempt on your part to play matchmaker, would it?
[ He chuckles at her wince. ]
They're my going out clothes. Anything I have to dress up for, I protest on principle.
Eddie/Lydia
Please, it's not all about you, honey. I already had plans with Klaus and Chrissy. I just thought it would be nice to invite you along so she doesn't feel third-wheely and I know she feels comfortable with you because she already knows you. Not that Klaus and I are like that, but still. Sometimes no matter how inclusive the other two in the group are, feeling like the third wheel is just a feeling that can't be avoided. If you don't want to come with, that's fine, I'll just ask Peter or Steve.
( She shrugs with feigned disinterest. Are there other women here she could invite? Absolutely. Is she going to drop their names when she'd rather give Eddie a bigger reason to want to come along to cockblock potential competition? Absolutely not. )
Okay, but like...you can keep the kind of grungey look because 90s and early aughts styles are coming back with a vengeance, but there are ways to modernize it so you get to still be comfortable in the types of clothes you're into without being obviously a Displaced Super. It's not that I hate them...they're fine. But...they do draw attention and, as someone who got the shit kicked out of her by some angry locals and lost her job for being arrested after fighting back a couple of years ago, all just because I was a Displaced Super...it'd be really cool if we could get you some more modern stuff for going out so we can blend. I promise nothing dressy.
( She pauses and smirks a little. )
For now, anyway.
Eddie/Lydia
Ouch. That hurts, Red.
[ It's clear that he doesn't quite believe her, but he gives in anyway. He drags his tongue over his teeth and then shrugs. ]
Sure. I'll come. For inclusivity's sake. And also because I need to see how a gay boyfriend works first hand.
[ He sighs, falling back onto the bed and lifting the phone above him. ]
First of all, you're asking me to conform to the standards of others. Which, I object very strongly too. I collect lost sheep, but I refuse to be one.
Second, I'm definitely not going to change under the threat of violence. That's bullshit. [ He pauses. ] I'm sorry that happened to you. I appreciate the warning. Really.
But I'm not going to dilute myself, especially for a bunch of assholes. What you see is what you get.
Eddie/Lydia
Then she gives him a placating look. )
Thank you. I'd rather you come than Peter or Steve, anyway, because I feel like both of them would want to bring one or more of their roommates, and I think Klaus is enough new person for Chrissy to deal with in one night.
( Lydia shakes her head, already preparing her rebuttal, but she doesn't interrupt him. She can absolutely see where he's coming from, but on the other hand, she's seen what happened to Klaus. What happened to Tony, to Sirius, to Cam, to Sally... She doesn't want to see it happen to anyone else, especially not her roommate.
When he finishes, she frowns, sighing. )
First...I'm asking you to compromise, not conform. If I wanted you to conform, I'd have you dressing like Steve and Caleb. That's not you and I wouldn't ask you to.
Second, I really get it, Eddie, but...it wasn't just me. There were lots of others who experienced it. Some people got hurt really, really badly and could have died, even people who were really powerful but got caught unawares. Klaus is one. A few others who aren't here anymore, too, and one of Steve's roommates.
( Frowning slightly, Lydia looks back at him almost apologetically, but she raises her hands in surrender. He's still in high school and teenagers — she's only a handful of years out of that stage herself, so she remembers — can be stupidly stubborn sometimes. It is what it is. She's not going to argue. )
Some of the locals really hate us and you've already died once. Do you really want to tempt fate like that just for the sake of non-conformity? Because if you do, fine, I'll protect you, but you're not going to like what you see and you're definitely not going to like what you hear if I have to. It's not pretty when I have to use my abilities...like it can get really bad when I use them if I'm not calm enough to focus on how hard I go.
Eddie/Lydia
Thanks, by the way. For looking out for her. She definitely needs more than me on her side.
[ He lets out a bark of a laugh at the mention of Steve and Caleb. ]
I like Harrington, but not his style. I'm glad you wouldn't ask, because I'd have to do something I promised myself I wouldn't do anymore and run the hell outta here.
[ His expression sobers a little as she goes on, the mirth in his eyes fading. ]
I'm used to being hated, so it's not that much of a turn off. But I'll tell you what, I'll try to keep an open mind. But I'm making the final call. I like the way I look, Queenie. It's called style and if this place can't handle it, well, I've got something for them right here...
[ It's his middle finger center screen. Still, he winks at her. ]
But it's sweet that you want to protect me. I knew you were in love with me.
Re: Eddie/Lydia
( If she's honest, she's so invested in Eddie and Chrissy because it smacks so much of Stiles and herself sophomore year of high school that she can't help herself. )
Yeah, but being hated for being the guy who refuses to fit in with the 'cool kids' and being hated the way Black people are hated by white supremacists are very different things, sweetie, and the latter can be really fucking dangerous.
So... ( She sighs softly and shrugs. ) yeah, do with that what you will. I don't have a problem with the way you look, it's just that your style is just this side of vintage, so you'll stand out as a Super, specifically, because we're the only ones that don't all come from 2022.
( In spite of herself, though, Lydia laughs and rolls her eyes again. )
Obviously.
Eddie/Lydia
[ He rolls over, setting the phone down on the bed and sitting up again. ]
How do you function with these tiny screens? I prefer the face to face talking. You coming home or headed out? I only ask because I might have eaten every chip in the house.
[ He laughs, though it doesn't reach his eyes. ]
Oh, you mean like basically having a lynch mob coming after you for killing someone? It's not entirely out of the realm of my experience. But I hear you. I do.
[ He grins. ]
I knew it.
Eddie/Lydia
( Lydia shrugs. )
They're all I've ever known as far as phones go. I'm on my way home, but do I need to stop at the grocery store?
( Her eyebrows lift a little at that. )
Yeah, exactly like that. Are you saying people thought you killed somebody? Literally why? You probably feel bad when you kill a fly...
( Rolling her eyes, Lydia smiles and shakes her head again. )
Can't put anything past you, can I?
Eddie/Lydia
Both of us. It's not important. What's important is that she has friends.
[ He waves her off. ]
No, I'll go get some. I gotta pick up some other stuff too. Make a list.
[ He frowns, shrugging. ]
Because I look the part, I guess. And I know you're going to say that's your point, but people shouldn't be able to tell you who you are by what you look like. You, lady fashionista, should know it should be the other way around.
[ He yawns. ]
Okay I'm done with this thing. Catch you later.
[ He pushes himself off the bed and walks out of the room, forgetting to turn it off. ]
Eddie/Lydia
You're high as hell. Just make a list and we'll Instacart it.
( Her nose wrinkles with distaste, but she doesn't contradict him because yeah. She does know. )
They shouldn't, but they do. All right, I'll be home soon. Make a list, I'll Instacart it so neither of us has to leave the house for it.
( Eddie gets up and walks out without shutting off his feed and Lydia laughs out loud before ending her own feed. )
