WHO: Peter & Prim
WHAT: Costume hangout!
WHERE: Apartment 105
With only a few days leading up to the Halloween festivities, Peter has been hard at work on his and Prim's costumes. His room is wall to wall packed with tools and parts, a soldering iron on the desk, some scrap metal in another corner, some LEDs in another. He could have worked on this at his office, but he's enjoyed tinkering with it all on his free time. With a few final tweaks, he holds up the set he's designed for Prim and sucks in a deep breath.
There's noise in the kitchen, and that's usually a sign of Prim at work, Five preferring to be as quiet and unnoticed as possible. So he opens his bedroom door and peeks out.
"Um... Prim?"
He frowns when he steps out, feeling the way his hands have gone sweaty, the way his heart beats a little faster. Lydia, of course, has encouraged him to do what he's wanted to do for a long, long time, but even now he can't shake the nerves.
"I finished part of our costume. Do you want to see?"

Prim has just finished getting the cat her meal and is about to turn to put it down when she registers the sound of her name and turns a wide smile on Peter. "Yeah?" She asks, continuing on her journey and sitting down the two bowls on their little oval placemat before she rights herself and the excitement hits her quickly. "Oh! I'd love to!" There's a pep in her step as she makes her way toward Peter.
"I found some ideas for the crowns that I wanted to show you later too - and I was making cider for later if you want any." Prim offers with a smile. Prim is excited to see whatever Peter has come up with. She can still remember the guilt that she had felt the last time they celebrated Halloween and she'd been so excited to dress up - only to remind herself of the people in the Capitol loving the very same things that she herself was doing. Prim likes to think that she does enough to help that it's okay that she gets excited to dress up now, but every so often there's still the thought there. And in this instance, she can't help the excitement because it's fun - and doing something alongside the boy she likes.
Once she reaches his door she slips in, squeezing Peter's arm along the way - and maybe she shouldn't have. Maybe it's too obvious - or maybe that's all in her head, but she really hopes her cheeks aren't tinged pink from it. Her eyes fall on the wings rather quickly and her face lights up even more as she turns from them to her roommate, "Peter they're beautiful!"

He doesn't miss the squeeze of his arm, finding his eyes flutter down to her touch before he's reminded why he invited her to his room. He clears his throat and gingerly takes her hand, guiding her over to them, ignoring the way his face burns hot with embarrassment.
"They move, too. They're not perfect, but I can set the colors to whatever you want. They got stuck strobing for a while. But, I don't know. Do you really like them? You can try them on if you want - there's a remote and everything to make them move."
He gives her hand a soft squeeze before he releases it, reaching for the little remote he's made to change the colors to a softer version of primrose pink. "

She praises her friend and roommate - and crush in earnest as she bounces on the tips of her toes in excitement - her cheeks a little pink from the squeeze of her hand.
"I like the pink right now, honestly." She shares with Peter after he changes the color to the soft pink. "And I'd love to try them on - do I need to be extra careful so I don't make them strobe again or anything?" Prim asks , stepping in closer to Peter to lean in and get a good look at the way that the wings actually go on, but not rushing to snatch them up because she doesn't want to ruin all of the hard work he put in by handling it with anything but care.
"I can't believe you got this much done so fast... you're really good at this you know, Peter?"
no subject
He reaches for the wings and holds them up so that the arm straps face Prim. "No, you won't make them strobe. That was... it was a coding error I couldn't find and it just - it was a silly mistake. Stayed up too late I think."
He shrugs one shoulder, and yet again, when she compliments him he swallows hard. "Oh. Um, it really wasn't that fast. I just - I mean we're going to the costume party and we can win if we have really cool ones, so I thought you'd like these. Here, you can try them on if you want? I should probably make sure they actually fit."

Prim just cares about the both of them, though. She can't help it. It's who she is - though with Peter it's certainly a different sort that isn't quite familial the way it is with Five.
"I really do like them, and winning sounds fun, but I didn't need all of this - not that I'm not... really tickled and don't appreciate the work that you did because they're beautiful and I love them. I'm just happy that we're going together, honestly - everything else is a bonus on top of that." Prim admits, turning so that she isn't talking over her shoulder and so that she can face Peter, holding her arms out and wiggling left and right a little to give him a better look at the wings (both as an effect and the fit - though it seems fine to her).
"What do you think - how do I look?"
no subject
He's careful when he helps with the wings, but once they're on he can't help but marvel at how they look on her. The wings flutter slowly once the contacts at the back engage, informing the AI they're in use. It's a system he's used in his own suit, and seeing the way they delicately flutter at Prim's back fills his own stomach with fluttering butterflies. God, he's so glad Five isn't home.
"But... but I mean I'm really happy we're going together, too. I didn't know if anyone would really want to go, and this stuff isn't always my kind of thing but it seemed like fun. And I wanted to support May."
He clears his throat, rubs at the back of his head a little awkwardly. "I wanted to go with you. And, um. I mean, they look incredible on you - you look great. They're - you're - pretty."
... Open mouth, insert foot, Parker.

Prim can't stop smiling at the moment, honestly, and part of her is sure that Peter probably is going to catch onto the fact that she likes him based on how giddy she feels about all of this. Especially as she marvels at the fluttering over her shoulders! This is much more than she had been thinking when she'd decided on her costume, but the fact that he's made it even better - it's touching, honestly.
"I'm happy we're going together too - I think people like having a reason to celebrate and May helped give something that everyone can do to bring a little more fun in to the community along with a good cause." Prim reaches up to tuck some of her hair behind her ear, worrying her bottom lip before she adds, "Even if not everyone would support every event I'd be happy to come, even when it isn't your sort of thing, to help, you know? If you ever want that is. Even if there aren't pretty costumes involved."
And the thing is... Prim means it, genuinely, though the compliment brings a blush to her cheeks - she's not sure if he means that she is pretty or that she's pretty in the wings, but either way it's nice.
"Thank you - you're really handsome so I'm sure that you'll look really great with your wings on too." Prim ventures, looking down to try and hide the red hitting her cheeks and ears. But it's not like it isn't the truth - and surely he knows he's handsome?

He shrugs a shoulder and fidgets with his hands, finding her compliment just makes his face burn even more and he's sure she can see it written all over his face. He's had this burgeoning crush for so long now - and to leave and come back, feeling the same way, makes it even harder to deny. Prim is kind, talented, sweet, thoughtful. She's funny, and for everything she's been up against, she's adventurous, too.
It's hard not to crush on her. Which is why he takes a breath and runs his fingers back through his hair, tousling the curls atop his head, nervous.
"Um. I mean, I definitely invited you because it would be fun and all, but I... I mean it's a couples' costume contest. So I had... I had to ask May what that meant and all, but I guess - I mean, I was thinking it wouldn't really matter if we - er, I mean."
Oh, god.
"I was... I was wondering if maybe you, like. I don't know. This is crazy weird to say, I guess, but I was wondering if maybe you'd wanna go together? Like together? I mean you're... you're just really cool and really pretty, and I've wanted - I mean I've liked you for - ..."
A deep breath. "Would you maybe wanna go as my date? To the costume thing and the party?"

Prim doesn't necessarily know what it's like to feel like you have a destiny... not the way that Peter or Katniss do. She's never had that same purpose or expectation heaped on her, either through herself or others. Still... Prim always just saw her sister. And she only really sees Peter, the boy she likes. She knows, in some part of her, that even if Peter shares few other things in common with her sister this is something that they both feel - the sense of duty and that they can't let other's down.
Prim gives Peter her full attention, though, as he begins to speak and she's quiet as he does, letting him get it all out as she focuses on following what the meaning of his words actually is. And as she catches on to his meaning - or she thinks she does - the smile begins to pull at her face, cheeks alight with pink. "I like you, I've liked you, for a while too, Peter." Prim admits, looking down with a tinge of mortification that she's being so bold. But... Lydia's bold. And she's happy.
Most of the people that she know that are utilize a little boldness to help make themselves happy. She might regret this later, but she just... lets herself act - taking a step forward and leaning in to press a chaste peck to Peter's cheek (despite the fact that she can feel how hot her face is from the action). But Darcy thought Peter liked her. Lydia seemed sure too, and she'll apologize if she made him uncomfortable - which is exactly the question that is almost written on her eyes and face despite the brave move.
"And I'd love to go together as a date." Prim finishes, emphasizing it the same way that Peter did because she gets what he means. He means in a romantic way and she's almost certain she couldn't blush any brighter as she takes the tiniest step back so that she's not crowding his personal space.

"Oh."
And a split second later he's sputtering a little, smile wide and animated, face burning hot even with he so close.
"That's awesome. I mean, great, I mean - if we go together, as a date and all. I've... I didn't know if you would want to, or if you even wanted a boyfriend I guess I mean - oh, jeez. We don't have to be - I don't have to be - I'd really like it if maybe -"
And it's his own body moving (spidey instincts maybe?) that have him sighing at himself, shaking his head and then dipping to kiss her cheek in return, his hands coming to take hers gently when he pulls back. It's sheepish, the way he looks, his eyes turned away from her just slightly.
"I mean it'd be... super great if you would be my girlfriend, I guess. If you want to. We can just try out... try out the date and keep doing that instead, I just - whatever you want, you know?"
Kill him now, please.
